Books

Manga is included here as well. I don't read much. Should I get around to it more? I'm not sure anymore. The potency of human imagination might actually make the written word the most fruitful form of propaganda, even more than the spoken word or motion picture. It pays to ask yourself what, precisely, a novel or short story is "selling" you. Gor, for example, could just be mindless, harmless fun or an apology for human bondage. The author being a tenured professor of philosophy is a little creepy. Then there is the slight possibility that words are magic spells and by hijacking our imagination, the writer of fiction becomes the writer of reality.
