This is my 2nd favorite Freddi Fish game but I started with this one for the
website because it has the best setting. The tropical aesthetics are very
relaxing and the colors are so vibrant. It really stands out, even among lots
of other children's computer games. You get a fun character maker in the jail
which is always a delight to mix and match. Individuals parts like fins and
bowties can even be uniquely colored. If you collect 4 purple sea urchins,
there is a decent minigame in Gil Barker's carnival tent. It's sort of like
that one game where you shoot colored balls that stick to the top of the screen
and try to match 4 to eliminate for points (Bubble Bobble?).
Like every Humongous Entertainment game, you get a different route to play each time you make a new game. This time, one conch piece was in the clam (I seem to always get this one). It requires the shim-sham-flimmity-flam-clapper-gapper to keep open, but to get that you need to ask Hors Fedders the tourist, which then requires Pelican Sam's dictionary. And the dictionary requires an orange sea urchin, which meant I had to return the wallet to its owner. I think it varies, but this time it was Pierre the tailor. The second conch piece was easy. I found a key on the beach with the monkey girl (Kiki?) and used it to open up the pilot's cockpit in the sunken airplane. The third conch piece was in a cage that needed a nut to re-attach the handle, and to get the nut I needed pliers to get it off Nadine the narwhal's horn. The pliers were in a prickly clam in the airplane so I found a glove past the kelp wall with all the colorful tubes that allowed Luther to safely pass the clam. And the final test is the underwater Aztec temple which is just awesome. You really feel alone and desolate down there, and the red, blue, and green crystals are so pretty and kinda tasty looking, like Jolly Ranchers. The villain of the game for this playthrough ended up being Gil Barker. If you only intend to play one Freddi Fish game, just for the experience, I would recommend this one. It's so watery and fishy that nothing beats it. I'd like to play Freddi Fish 4 next, the cowfish rustler one. Anyways, I have good memories of 3. I don't think I beat it as a kid because I was sort of retarded. I never, ever figured out how to get past the kelp wall by making the clam cut the dogfish's leash. It was probably 1999 or 2000 when I first played the game, and I had obtained it at a toystore that also carried computer games (I wish I remembered the name of the place; it's not there anymore). |
