HANS

I wrote this one for my old schnauzer, Hans, getting "married" to an ani-pal schnauzer from England Poppy. He died in 2014, 9 years ago as of writing this, and I know he's happy wherever he is.
Hansy, old buddy, old pal, how long has it been?
Where've you gone, what've you seen?
Can you play and romp and chase?
Does Poppy still have her wedding lace?
What fields and meadows lie in the great beyond?
How green are the hills, how blue the pond?
Past the bridge and over the hedge
Do your paws wade through heaven's sedge?
Where's your nest, your den, your secret lair?
Are other dogs ruff, or are they fair?
Do you still chow like a bristly hog?
Are you still lazy, like a lump on a log?
That's all for now, though there's more to say
Give Poppy a hug, for I must away
Now don't whimper, beg, or whine
Hansy, my brother, just let it shine
