Kirby's Adventure

Wowee zowee does this game make me happy. The first time my back went out and I was stuck in agony, laying in bed, sometimes I'd hear the Ice Cream Island or Orange Ocean themes in my head and could calm down. I'm a very nervous person, even if I don't show it, and because I bottle up my feelings they tend to come back to haunt me with various pains. Kirby is a like a psychic pacifier, a weighted blanket. It also happens to be one of a very few platformers I am able to beat because I'm terrible at video games!

It's a simple game for the most part but the real fun comes from 2 things: trying out all the different powers Kirby can suck up, and playing without any of them. The bosses can be a lot more challenging this way which is actually fun for me (unusual as it is). Some powers do have drawbacks though, like how Fireball can get you killed, or the wheel. I think my favorites are the Needle, Sleep (it's useless but adorable), and hammer. The hammer tends to be very useful for finding secrets. There are a lot more of these than I remembered and my save file, after beating the nightmare, was only 75% complete. I probably won't bother completing it soon, and won't record it with screenshots either. I'm trying not to force myself to do anything and just have fun with games, since I've had compulsive tendencies that I'm trying to break.

The best music is Orange Ocean by far, although the forest theme that repeats throughout the game is also fun for it's disco-funk feeling. My favorite looking stages are in Orange Ocean and Rainbow Resort, the latter feeling very space-y and mystical. The mini-boss rush tower was really fun, especially if you try to not get hit a single time.

Lastly, the game is very forgiving since it's for babies. It has a save feature, it saves automatically, you get showered with lives when you play the claw machine and quick draw and egg eating minigames, when you die you start over right where you were, if you game over you do the same basically, and when you come back to the game after turning it off, all the minigames are reset so you can farm more lives! This is the perfect game for 5-year olds and 65-year olds alike, as well as idiots like me. And it's so cute you'll want to scream!
